The case is what houses all of the computers components. Many people cheep out on a case first time building. this is a huge mistake. A good case will allow a novice builder a far easier time cable managing and allow more room to work with. This will make a huge difference in a first build.
There are other reasons to look at getting a good case. A good case will provide better air flow and will most likely be made of more durable components. The two of these combined will provide a healthier environment for your components promoting longevity. A good case will also have options for expansion providing support for different sizes of mother board, hard drive racks, radiator mounting, and better front panel IO.

The PSU is the component that provides the power to the computer. When buying a PSU make sure to look for a 80+ rating. The 80+ rating is a certification that proves that the PSU has undergone performance testing. Make sure that the wattage you PSU has add up to at least 50 more that that of all of your components put together.
